As part of the 30th World Astronaut Congress held at the Cité de l’ espace in Toulouse from 16 to 20 October 2017, astronauts from all over the world met students and young people in 28 cities in France.

This vast event, called Community Day, has been organised on October 19 by the Association des Explorateurs de l’ Espace (ASE Association of Space Explorers), the Cité de l’ espace, the Toulouse Academy and the Education and Youth Department of the Centre National d’ Etudes Spatiales (CNES/French Space Agency). The topic was “L’ espace est mon avenir” (Space is my future).

On this occasion, Toulouse Business School had the pleasure of welcoming Jean-François Clervoy, a French engineer, space engineer and spacewalker at the European Space Agency (ESA), veteran of three space missions with NASA, and Oleg Atkov, a former Soviet cosmonaut who hold the record for the longest space flight in the 1980s, with more than 236 days spent in orbit aboard Saliout 7.

The objectives of this unprecedented meeting are to develop students’ curiosity, raise their awareness of the exploration of space, make them feel the human dimension of this adventure, show the strength of a shared dream, evoke the progress of science and the space world… and perhaps arouse vocations!
