Latécoère – Official inauguration of the new 4.0 factory in Toulouse Montredon (France)

Latécoère teams and executives invited leaders of the industry, authorities and partners (including Toulouse Business School @ToulouseBS) on May 22nd , 2018 to celebrate officially the inauguration of a brand new 4.0 factory. It has been launched as part of the French aerostructures and systems specialist’s Transformation 2020 programme, the €37m facility aims to accelerate the digital transformation process within the company.

A visit has been set up with very rich comments provided by Nicolas Carreras, Project manager of this new 4.0 factory.

Production of aluminum parts already started in February, just 10 months after the ground-breaking ceremony. The 6,000m2 facility, which will eventually employ 150 people, is targeting an annual output of 500,000-600,000 parts by 2020. A 3,000m2 extension is already planned for 2019 to accommodate surface treatment and painting activities. This plant will manufacture 28 beams for A320  passenger doors  (conceived through Digital MockUp). Beams are key elements to the door structure.

With the support of  Dassault 3D Systems Latécoère experienced the virtual model of its plant in Toulouse Montredon and all of its equipment, so Latécoère can reshape it on purpose.

The paperless factory will combine automated workflow (robotic systems, automated intelligent vehicles) and innovative processes based on the Internet of things (IoT) and radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. Through the application of lean production principles, the company aims to reduce production cycles from several weeks to a few days. These technologies are of extreme interest in the frame of the Aerospace MBA which will incorporate even more these new trends in the Specialized Track dedicated to the “Aerospace Value Chain”.

France’s Industry of the Future Alliance (AIF) has approved the project as a showcase for the industry of the future in terms of its production organisation and the use of the latest digital technologies.

Mr. Ambroise Fayolle, Vice-President of BEI (Banque Européenne d’Investissement / European Investment Bank), Mrs. Carole Delga, President of Occitanie Region, Mr. Jean-Luc Moudenc, President of Toulouse Metropole, Mr. Pascal Mailhos, Préfet de Haute-Garonne (top ranking public servant of the district) have all highlighted the daring and ambitious policy of re-industrialization in this aerospace leading region. They were proud of Mrs. Yannick Assouad’s initiative (CEO of Latécoère) and provided warm encouragements, acknowledging its “Industrie du  Futur” label (FrenchLab).
