Aerospace MBA exhibits at ASD Days, Le Bourget, Paris (France) – Nov. 6 & 7, 2018

On 7th & 8th of November, 2018 the Aerospace MBA did exhibit for the third times in a row @ASD_Days in Paris Le Bourget (France). Beyond B2B meetings with diverse players from the industry (drones, aircraft, space…), some conferences held @MuseeAirEspace were very interesting.

  • Atelier Pras : “Industrial models, exceptional marketing” by Marc de Laubier, CEO
  • Ascendance Flight Technologies : “Urban air mobility: what are the operational challenges & opportunities” by Jean-Christophe Lambert, CEO
  • “Relationship between key account & suppliers, how to integrate in a contractor’s supply chain?” with Nourallah Touli, General Manager at ATOS, Djmale Lichani, Advanced sourcing & innovation procurement director at Thales Alenia Space, Laurent Legendre, Paris Region Director at Airbus and Jonathan Langlois, Open innovation manager at MBDA
  • ATOS: “Aerospace enterint the era of digital transformation growth” by Stéphane Janichewski, Group Senior Vice President Head of Defense & Aerospace Market
  • Bureau Papillon: “Enterprise 4.0: digital impact on management style and governance” by Artus de Longuemar, Co-Founder

In addition, Vilaspace got the Award of the “Start-Up challenge” which ceremony tooks place under the Concorde Wings and nearby @ToulouseBS #AerospaceMBA Booth A12!

Some thoughts, ideas and information gathered during the conferences:

  • Big data sounds sometimes like only slideware. The question is: what does it bring effectively despite all the  aerospace constraints and specificities (infrastructure, location, professional skills…). One critical aspect remains the clear understanding and knowledge of the industry.
  • Bright future for aerospace (traffic growth, disruptive technologies & business models…) but some real stakes regarding productivity & costs and the exceptional growth of the amount of data (competition, passenger expectations, environment, safety & compliance)
  • Encouraging start-ups to go the prime contractors’ main competitors to avoid dependence, to challenge their offering (POC, proof of concept)
  • In order to penetrate large key account, one option is to take part to collaborative projects. Many opportunities are now accessible and investors are ready to play their role. Large organizatrions have even created new positions “Chief Venture Collaborative Officers”.
  • For start-ups and SMEs, it’s often difficult to work directly with prime contractors whose organizations are loosy or too complex.
  • Purchasing departments look for robust companies able to supply them during many years
  • It’s very important for startups and SMEs to work on their awareness. They must be visible. Airbus Development unit has been created precisely to help these companies to interact at the right level with the right people within Airbus (Trojan Horse :)). Beyond this support, Airbus Development brings talent, resources, opportunities to the startups & SMEs up to their maturity (critical size). it takes time but nowadays an ecosystem is available in France to accompany these companies.
  • Some large organizations still suffer from NIH syndrome (not invented here), thus neglecting many valuable new technologies and proposals….
