8th of May 2016 – Bangalore – GMAE Valedictory Ceremony

The Valedictory Ceremony of Batch#1 “IIMB-TBS General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives-GMAE” took place at IIMB on Sunday, 8th May 2016.

In the Auditorium, Mr. Mohan Raj Athimoolam MADAN, Chief Programme Officer – Executive Education Programmes first welcomed the Graduates and their families, the IIMB & TBS Aerospace MBA Directors and the Chief Guest, Dr. Srinivasan Dwarakanath, President Airbus Division in India. Then, silence has been respected to remember Mr Sudhir G C (GMAE@1 Delegate), who succumbed to his cancer recently. In his address, Madan Mohan Raj then highlighted the diversity of the first batch and paid glowing tributes to the academic effort put in by the participants – all of whom are experienced working professionals.

Programme Director Professor S Raghunath, from the Corporate Strategy & Policy area of IIMB, urged the participants to take away lessons in leadership. “You can have your own functional areas of specialization, but remember that as you go up in your professional life you contribute effectively only when you build cohesion. I would like to see you take up leadership positions.” Professor S. Raghunath introduced then the Chief Guest, Dr. Srinivasan Dwarakanath, President – Airbus Division in India. In his Valedictory Address, Dr. Srinivasan Dwarakanath said: “India is a strategic country as it is one of the richest talent pools for the next generation of business leaders and a management programme that teaches one how to run an airline, work with regulatory bodies and drive the aerospace supply chain, is certainly exciting for the entire aviation sector”. Congratulating the first batch of 66 participants who successfully completed the General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives on 8th May 2016 (Sunday), Dr. Dwarakanath said: “Aviation growth will shift to Asia and India. This is the right time to equip executives with the right kind of skills so that they can drive the growth further. India is poised to become the third largest civil aviation market over the next 20 years”.

The General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives (GMAE) is a specially designed programme which was launched at IIM Bangalore, jointly by Toulouse Business School (TBS), France, Airbus & Airbus Group and IIM Bangalore, on April 26, 2015. It is a milestone being the first aerospace and aviation management programme in the country. The participants who successfully complete the GMAE programme are eligible to pursue the Aerospace MBA being offered by TBS, which is a two-year programme delivered by both faculty members from TBS and IIMB together with industry experts from aeronautics, aviation, space and defence.

In his address, Professor Christophe Bénaroya said as a teacher he was impressed by the quality of work and the initiative shown by the programme participants. “We held additional seminars with IIMB’s support. The initiative came from you. This ‘extra mile’ attitude tells me that you will be assets in your organizations.” Forty-five of the 66 participants have signed up for the second year of the Aerospace MBA at Toulouse Business School, France.
